Curex Pharmaceuticals — departments overview

Production

Once R&D is satisfied and approved by the DDA, the methodology goes to the corporate team, then to QA who initiates a BMR (Batch Manufacturing Record). The production manager prepares a schedule, procures raw materials, and supervises the entire process — granulation, coating, primary and secondary packing.

  • Responsible for production from acquisition of materials through processing to delivery of finished products
  • Provides overall direction for technical and administrative operations in warehouse, dispensing, processing, and packaging
  • Ensures all equipment is correctly validated and utilised
  • Prepares daily reports and weekly production plans
  • Improves production costs and prepares annual budgets

Quality Assurance

QA stands as a mediator and regulatory body between Quality Control and the Production team. Both teams report their findings, effectiveness, defects, and deviations to this supreme body. QA rigorously checks the BMR for discrepancies and sets procedures for implementing current GMP rules.

  • Performing self-inspections and conducting GMP training
  • Approving SOPs and managing the SSOPs system
  • Evaluating pharmaceuticals, technical complaints, and deciding resulting measures
  • Assuring validation of manufacturing processes and utilities
  • Supervising change control systems and approving changes
  • Monitoring batch deviations
  • Approving major processing and master packaging procedures
  • Approving or rejecting raw material supplies
  • Responsible for releasing or rejecting products manufactured in the factory

Quality Control

QC has a laboratory designed to test the quality of raw materials, semi-finished products, and the final product. Every phase of production is tested, reports are given to the Quality Manager, and logged into the BMR. Production continues only after QC assures tests have yielded positive results.

  • Providing overall direction for operations in the chemical and microbiological laboratory
  • Taking responsibility for analytical results and decisions to release or reject materials
  • Discussing production failures with the production manager and determining causes and solutions
  • Procuring all necessary instruments and ensuring they are utilized, maintained, and calibrated correctly

Microbiological Department

A sub-division of Quality Control, responsible for ensuring medications do not contain harmful levels of microbes — bacteria, yeasts, and moulds. This intense process requires great caution in controlled environments, testing water, epidermis of staff, sterility of equipment, and every minute detail.

  • Environmental monitoring of controlled environments
  • Complete analysis of water used in production
  • Limit test and identification of pathogens
  • Microbial tests of raw materials as well as finished products
  • Viable monitoring to detect levels of bacteria and fungi at each stage of processing

Storage Sections

Storage at Curex is an orderly and structured process requiring controlled and well-monitored environments. Storage is divided into released and rejected areas, with three major sections handling raw materials, packaging materials, and finished products.

  • Raw Material Store: Active materials stored in thermolabile room; others at prescribed temperatures
  • Packaging Material Store: Stored at normal room temperature, no controlled environment required
  • Finished Product Store: Tagged with trade name, batch number, manufacturing date, expiry date, pharmacist's signature, shipper number; FIFO and FEFO systems followed
  • Released Area: Products sanctioned by QC for dispensing or dispatch
  • Rejected Area: Products rejected for further use, including recalled or returned products
